About this speaker
Stephen Boyd is a Toronto based artist using generative code as his medium for creating prints and interactive works since 2003. For the last 20 years Stephen has explored the idea of using simple patterns written in code, repeating and reflecting off each other millions of times to create beauty through emergent structure. His work for the last five years has focused on creating generative collections for print and screen. Stephen's prints and installation work are held in private collections and have been exhibited in solo and group shows. He has presented at the Marshall McLuhan Festival, Siggraph, taught at the University of Toronto and held an Artist-in-Residence position at Centennial College. In addition to his art practice Stephen consults, runs workshops and gives talks on the nature of designing with code, data visualization and generative art. Stephen’s influences range from early generative artists of the 1960s such as Manfred Mohr and Vera Molnár to Sol LeWitt, Gershon Iskowitz and more recently Casey Reas. Stephen is a graduate of the Canadian Film Centre’s New Media H@bitat program.
